Last night a tall man with a British accent joined our group at the bar while I was in the rest room. When I got back, I said, “I didn’t catch your name.” He shook my hand and said, “Lee Child.” I was surprised, delighted, and embarrassed that I didn’t recognize him. He gave us this great advice: “The most important thing you can do as a writer is to focus on the quality of the second book.”
The short story panel was excellent. Unfortunately, this picture cut out everyone but Sean Chercover. Simon Wood was a great moderator. Other panelists: Dana Cameron, Jane K. Cleland, Toni LP Kelner, and Kristine Kathryn Rusch.
I meet the charming Gino Brogdon, a rising star. Says he'll buy THE SEX CLUB on the title alone.

Pages look fine to me, LJ. Could be lack of sleep. Or too much time hanging in the bar. I know, I know…there’s no such thing as too much time hanging in the bar at Bouchercon.
It looks like a fabulous conference where everyone is having fun. I’d like to attend one of these years.

My answer? No, the gender of the author or protag is not a factor my book reading/buying decision. I buy for protag profession (usually police or PI) and setting (international is my love). However, it does seem that my reading is biased towards male authors and male protags.
