My two favorites are Jean Valjean (Les Miz) and Edmund Dantes (Count of Monte Cristo), because they both went thru such stunning transformations. They both could have remained bitter, raging men, but they didn’t. Valjean sought God’s grace, a perfect balance against Javert’s feeling that he deserved it and the Thenardiers’ belief they didn’t need it. Dantes turned his rage into revenge, but ultimately realized that what he needed to show was mercy in order to save himself.

My favorite character of all times is Scarlett O’Hara because she is so complex. Selfish, yes, but willing to protect her family and do what it takes to survive. I don’t think I’d like her if I met her, but I do admire the heck out of her.

My favorite character of all time is Huckleberry Finn. Mark Twain’s mouthpiece of philosophy, a voice of reason and sanity in an insane world.
